The oval shaped form is a form that I’m very attracted to and feel a special affinity with. As with the circle, the oval form can be considered a symbol of wholeness, but with a more dynamic feel to it. I use the oval shaped form in many of my paintings because I feel that it carries a special power that when felt into gives a sense of wholeness and completeness.
The ovals shaped form is highly venerated in India and is commonly depicted in Tantric paintings. It goes by different names like Shivalingam (symbol of Shiva – Shiva being the highest Divinity, the all pervasive awareness), Brahmanda (The Cosmic Egg) or Hiranyagarbha (The Golden Womb). All these names carry the meaning of Source – the Source of all beings and the Source for the creation of the whole Universe.
